World's Lost Tribes
The Mek by the river

Q: Once you were accepted into the village, did anyone make you feel unwelcome at all?

Mark: I did not experience or witness a single incident where I was made to feel unwelcome, quite the reverse in fact. That’s not to say the first few weeks weren’t difficult though.

With film crew and camp followers we were a huge imposition on their lives, and we were, to the Mek, also simply very strange. If Olly and I were a little puzzled at some of their habits, just imagine what confusions they had to get their heads around!

But we all got on well from the start and their sense of humour and generosity made it really pretty easy for both groups, though from completely opposite walks of life, to gain one another’s trust.  The friendship grew from there.
