Fact

In an attempt to reduce strain on the railway system, the special 'flower trains' that moved cut flowers from the Isles of Scilly and the West Country to London were halted in 1942. But as soon as Winston Churchill heard about the stoppage, he immediately ordered the restoration of the flower train services, as fresh cut blooms in the home were seen as important for the country's morale.
