Audi Quattro

SOLD FOR £5,450

The Quattro is a car that defines the 1980’s – big, bold and brash. The handsome, slab-sided body was matched by a powerful turbo-charged five-cylinder engine and state of the art four wheel drive. This truly was an automotive first. The Quattro is the car which launched ‘Vorsprung Durch Technich’ into our vocabulary and the A3, A4, A6 and TT Quattros of today are the inheritors of that sporting brand.

This car dominated the rally world of the early eighties. Michele Mouton became a motor sport icon when she piloted the Quattro and became the first and only woman ever to win a World Rally Championship Round (1981 Rally San Remo). A bruiser of a car, it has always had a big car fan following, but as the amount of cars available dips in the UK and spares begin to run short, this car is now ripe for price rises. Good cars sell for top money, and ours will be one of the best.

Our car is a 1986 C reg in metallic silver (one of the most desirable colours). The car comes with plenty of service history including an engine and turbo re-build (essential) and a new cam belt (saves us the cost of doing it). Body-wise it is in pretty good order, but the front and rear bumpers have been kerbed and show signs of parking damage. The interior is scruffy but savable.

There are some big, mechanical issues that need addressing straight away on this car and Edd will be digging into the complex rear wheel bearings and clutch. Overall story for this car is that we’ve bought a modern classic for very, good money - £3,800, down from an offer price of £4,490. The mechanical work might put some off… but once Edd has twiddled the spanners we should see a good profit. The car is sound and values are on a steep rise as the fashion for everything 80s gathers pace in music, TV, fashion... and cars.
