Episode 1: The Stolen Eagle
After eight years of war, Gaius Julius Caesar has finally completed his bloody conquest of Gaul. Just as he is prepared to celebrate a resounding victory and return to Rome with his army, he receives word that his daughter Julia has died in childbirth.
Episode 2: How Titus Pullo Brought Down the Republic
After anointing Mark Antony the People's Tribune, Caesar sends him to Rome to negotiate a compromise with the Senate. Accompanied by young Octavian and his liberators, Vorenus and Pullo, the new "protector of the people" is greeted by cheers as he enters the city, a crowd swarming around him to catch the coins he tosses to them.
Episode 3: An Owl In a Thornbush
Thirty miles outside of Rome, Caesar sends Vorenus, Pullo and some Ubian soldiers on a scouting mission to size up Pompey's defences, with strict instructions to advance only until they meet resistance. "There will be no raping, pillage, or burning," he adds, handing Vorenus a proclamation to deliver to the civilians of the city.
Episode 4: Stealing From Saturn
Caesar has returned to the city and taken command, instituting Martial law to control the anarchy left in his rival's wake. His first mission is to win the support of the priests, and he asks that auguries be taken such that the people of Rome know that the Gods are on his side.
Episode 5: The Ram Has Touched The Wall
Chased to the Italian coast by Caesar's legions, Pompey and the senior senators debate their response to Caesar's truce offer. They finally agree to a "cessation of hostilities" based on his terms, though Pompey vehemently insists to his men the agreement is not a surrender. He simply needs time to bring fresh troops from Greece and Spain.
