Myths You'll Never See

Mythbusters 6: Adam, Buster, Jamie (DCL) Executive Producer Dan Tapster's Top 10 Myths You'll Never See on the Show

"I should point out that I'm a great believer in "never say never."' As visitors to the fan site may remember, I did once say that we would never do planes on a conveyor belt unless we could find a conveyor belt big enough to hold a 737! But, of course, when we found a way to test it with our giant tarpaulin, I changed my mind." - Dan Tapster

10. THE PRINCESS AND THE PEA
One of the stranger fan-site requests: Is it true that a princess can feel a pea below 20 feather beds and 20 mattresses? I think we all know the answer, plus princesses are hard to come by.

9. LAKE TAHOE
According to rumour, the bottom of Lake Tahoe, due to its strange anaerobic properties, is full of undecomposed dead bodies dumped there by the Mafia. We've thought about building a sub to go and take a look, but if we did find anything, we'd have to hand it on to the police and not the TV show!

8. 21 GRAMS
Is it true that when you die, as your soul leaves your body, you lose 21 grams in mass? We've got ideas for how to test this on Myth Busters, but none of them are ethical.

7. EXPLODING WHALE
Is it true that the U.S. Oregon Department of Transportation attempted to dispose of a whale carcass by blowing it up? It's hard to find whales these days, and if you look on YouTube you can find the footage ... meaning yes, it's true.

6. STARS FROM A WELL
Is it true that if you dig a deep enough hole, you can see the stars from the bottom of it during the daytime? Whilst I think it would be a fun myth test to give Adam and Jamie a spade and get them to dig for two months, I just don't think that the payoff is really worth it. I mean, we've all seen stars, right?

5. ALLIGATOR SEWER
Do alligators really grow in sewers in New York? Just not going to do it, despite the requests. Why? Well, because this myth has been around so long that surely there would be some evidence if it were actually true - i.e., a sewer worker who has been munched. There isn't.

4. PERSONAL CRUISER
Using GPS and a couple of other gizmos, can you build your own cruise missile? Truly fascinating, but I can't see a way how we can do this without showing the world how to make your own cruise missile, and that's not healthy.

3. AIRPLANE BACTERIA
Is it true that modern aircraft air-conditioning systems are a breeding ground for viruses and bacteria? You know that feeling - you take a flight and two days later you get sick. I'm not sure that Adam and Jamie are all that excited about getting sick for science.

2. ROLLED GOLD
Is it true that a matchbox-sized block of gold can be rolled out so that it is the size of a tennis court? If there's anyone out there who wants to give us some gold, I might reconsider.

1. PLANE ON A CONVEYOR BELT REVISIT
We got this myth 100 percent correct. There's still loads of controversy about it, but seriously, we're not going to do it again. No way, never. Period. At least, I hope not anyway!
