Jeff King was born in California and came to Alaska in 1975 to "seek adventure." He began mushing in 1976 after he heard Jerry Riley's race finish while listening to the radio. Jeff has an outstanding race record including a Yukon Quest victory in 1981 and four Iditarod victories. During the past 20 years, Jeff has logged more than 100,000 miles on a dog sled.
King currently lives with his family on Goose Lake in Denali Park surrounded by the majestic peaks of the Alaska Range. The owner and operator of Goose Lake Kennels, King breeds, raises and trains 60 to 70 huskies a year. In the summer months the King family welcomes visitors from around the world to tour their kennel and learn about Alaskan Huskies, the sport of dog mushing and the life and spirit of Alaska, the last frontier.
The King's two-story log home is also an art studio for Jeff's wife, Donna, an accomplished medical illustrator and wildlife painter. All of their daughters have run the Junior Iditarod and Cali has completed the Iditarod.
