" Engineer Stephen Salter and physicist John Latham have a plan to lower global temperatures by customizing clouds through geoengineering."

" We need to make them reflect about 10% more than they're reflecting now."

" We got the most massive global problem that we've ever had, and so we've got to think big. Natham and Salter's dream is to launch 3.8 million tons of saltwater particles each day into the world's oceanic clouds using remote-controlled chips."

" We envisage a fleet of up to 1500 boats moving around the world's oceans. The boats spray out seawater particles beneath the clouds in question, some fraction of those particles make their way into the clouds."

" When the saltwater particles rise into a cloud, they redistribute the existing moisture, increasing it's reflectivity. As a result, cloud bounces more sunlight than normal back into space. A Discovery Channel team will try to see if Salter and Latham's idea can really work."

" So, you're telling us you're going to make clouds reflect more sunlight, we're gonna cool the planet?"

He'll design an experiment to show that man-made particles will rise high enough to brighten existing clouds. He also needs to find the ideal size and concentration of particles needed for the job. But his experiments will take him to uncharted territory."
