" Night falls fast in the jungle. One moment it's light and in a blink of an eye, it's pitch-black dark. So, I have little time to build a shelter. The Guarani natives left me with a dugout canoe for safety, and tonight, it will have to do. If I can make a cover of bent branches, it would shed any rain, but everything I've tried so far just snaps on my hands."

" Does not work out so well."

" Completely exposed lying on a dugout canoe in the middle of the Amazon Jungle is not a good way to start the week."

" Here we go again."

" Any rain upstream will make the river rise dramatically as much as 10 or more feet in just a few hours, so I have to remain vigilant in my watch of the water level or my canoe could easily be swamped in the middle of the night, but something tells me I won't have much trouble staying awake tonight."

" It's not dark yet, but it's getting there, and I'm in the middle of the Amazon Jungle. My concerns tonight are going to be the rising of the river, if there is rain, further upstream and also a jaguar. There are 4 big cats out here. The Ocelot and the Margay cat aren't any concern of mine. There is also the puma, also known as the Cougar or mountain lion, and the jaguar. I feel better sleeping in the canoe on the water, but without a fire, this got me pretty nervous. I'm in the middle of the jungle. Here we go, night number 1 in the jungle. Oh, this was my night. I felt very exposed all night long, but at least I wasn't too cold. I'm not sure what was worse. The moths are trying to land on me all night long. Moths were trying to land on my face. There is something I forgot to mention, vampire bats. There are bats here that they land on you at night and you can't even feel them. Their teeth are so sharp and their saliva numbs you so that they can suck your blood and people got bitten on the nose, on the toes in places like that, and they were checking me out last night. So I gotta set myself up today and try to be less exposed."
