All of which adds a huge premium to the cars cost. As a result, convertibles have usually been the sole preserved of the well to do, but the Mustang was different. It was designed alongside the coupe version of the car . When you threw in Ford's powerhouse V8 engine, you ended up with the first cheap, yet fully formed convertible sports car ever made.

Ford do it? How did they turn the Mustang into a genuine sports car available at such a cheap cost? Well, the most expensive parts to manufacturing a car are the chassis and the engine. Ford bypass this by sticking an old chassis and the enormous V8 engine together. This way the car had plenty of power plus the only thing they had to manufacture was the car stunning body. Simple.
