" Yeah, last season we had accident on the boat with one of my crewmen, Lenny Lekanoff, had his fingers smashed and it led to having to take the boat in early and basically stop all our fishing operations in order to make sure he was patched up."

" Well, Lenny had his fingers smashed by between the pot and the block, and it was more of a mashing injury. The show didn't show exactly what happened. It was actually really pretty gory. Almost the entire end of the finger was ripped open and it was amazing that there was no tendon, ligament, or bone damage in there. It was just all basically meat and it was pretty nasty. In the Bering Sea, everything seems to work under the domino effect. You'll have one incident that occurs, leads to another, leads to another, leads to another; and so whether it impacts your fishin' or maybe impacts ultimately how a guy might fall over the side; and it seems like it's always a chain of events that leads to that. In that particular event put us behind schedule. You know, our intent at that point was to put on at least 200,000 to 250,000 pounds of king crab. Cut the trip short and kinda put us behind the schedule for the rest of the season, but we managed to catch up. We can patch guys up a little bit at sea, you know, minor lacerations, things like that. We can stitch `em up, but when you get to somethin' that would involve a guy losing his finger, then it's time to go. The good news is that we saved the finger basically. The doctor in Dutch Harbor basically said,"

" Yeah, you know, had you not brought him in, he would have lost at least the end of the finger or maybe more."

" So, I'm pretty happy that that occurred because, as you can see, I've got all ten, and I want my guys to have all ten and that's not somethin you can say for most of the guys"
