King Tut's Mystery Tomb Opened

King Tut's Mystery Tomb Opened info

Discovery has always been about breaking boundaries, so when, in 2006, Egyptologists broke down the door to King Tut’s Mystery Tomb, we were right there with a film that blurred the lines between history, archaeology and science.

We followed the astonishing discoveries being made by archaeologist Dr. Otto Schaden - in the first untouched tomb to be opened for nearly 80 years.

And the film also showed the urgency once the team were in. A race against time began: to protect the tomb from sandstorms, air contamination, flooding  - and tourists.

  • Archaeologists searched The Valley of The Kings for 80 years to find KV63 (The Mystery Tomb’s official name!)
  • In the end, the entrance was found just 80ft from King Tut’s main tomb.
  • Egyptologists were delighted to find that the tomb hadn’t been looted. It had been vacuum-sealed since the last stone was put in place – 3000 years ago.
  • Carvings, documents, treasure and artefacts shed new light on King Tut and his reign. Discovery viewers saw them exactly as they were found, in this breathtakingly tense film.
