Sci Fi on TV

A flying saucer

The 1960s was a pioneering decade in the history of science fiction, as television brought it into everyone’s living room. Classic titles of the era include Star Trek, The Time Tunnel, Lost in Space, The Invaders, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, and The Twilight Zone. Many of these early shows have been rescued and brought back to life through DVD.

Until this time, television was dominated by westerns and family shows but, on 12 January 1966, Batman emerged from the comic strips and became flesh and blood before the eyes of millions of admiring, astonished and bewildered viewers. In time, sci-fi television shows became more and more sophisticated until the 2002 mini-series Taken helped to prove that there is little difference between productions made for the television screen and the big screen.
