The New Wave |
 |
Themes from the golden age of science fiction, such as robots and far-away galaxies, eventually gave way to a new, more highbrow sub-genre. New Wave science fiction was characterised by experimentation both in form and content, an obsession with the human condition and the relentless exploration of taboos.
William Burroughs, J.G. Ballard and Phillip K. Dick are talented authors who variously inspired or evolved this new direction for science fiction. They share one thing in common: all were marked by life-changing events that influenced their work, bringing a new intensity and revolutionary genius to it.
