The world’s largest monolith is Uluru, also known as Ayres Rock. It stands 348 metres high and is nearly 3 kilometres in length. Most of the rock is concealed underground, extending up to 6 kilometres below the earth.

Uluru is the Aboriginal people’s most revered site. Caves around Uluru are home to sacred paintings showing “Dreamtime”, a magical time which is the Aboriginal concept of creation, when the world came into being. To the Anangu Aboriginal people, Uluru is alive with dozens of ancestral beings who still inhabit special sites. Their activities are recorded at certain locations around Uluru and many of the stories are sacred and shrouded in secrecy.

There are many paranormal incidents attached to Uluru. Tourists will often take rocks and pebbles from the site and then return them by post, claiming since the day they took them they have had nothing but bad luck.

UFOs are another reported phenomena at Uluru. Recently there have been spates of flying triangle sightings, reported by amateur astronomers and visitors, and yet the objects have not been detected by conventional radar. In the past huge cigar shaped crafts have also been reported with no clue as to their identity.
