In 1993, the world stopped dead as Ducati unveiled its new flagship sportsbike. The 916 redefined the way sports bikes should look and, thanks to expert chassis design, raised the bar for handling and performance, too.
Beneath the Massimo Tamburini-designed bodywork lived a 114bhp 916cc V-twin engine capable of delivering around 160mph. At launch, it was the fastest bike of its kind.
The 916 design remained in production in various guises until 2000, but the replacement 996 and 998 models looked identical. It wasn’t until the 999 arrived in 2002 that production of the timeless Tamburini shape finally finished.
