Set around the Qing Dynasty, this critically acclaimed epic features fantastic imagery and a touching love story. It follows the tale of two legendary warriors who are in love, but unable to express their feelings. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is actually a Chinese phrase which means to wisely hide your strength from others.
The Wu Dang brand of martial arts feature prominently in the film. The fight scenes themselves require some suspension of disbelief as characters vault across the roofs of tall buildings, run up walls and swoop through the air among bamboo forests.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon became the first foreign language film to gross over $100 million in the US. It also holds the record for the most Oscar nominations – ten, including Best Picture and Best Director – for a foreign film, and won four Academy Awards as well as the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation in 2001.
