Sid and Nancy:
The beginning of the end came when Sid met American groupie Nancy Spungen in November 1977. Despite her affluent background, Nancy was a high school drop out, heroin addict and one-time prostitute who had repeatedly attempted suicide. She and Sid were soon co-dependents – in love and heroin. Their turbulent and intense relationship drove a wedge into the Sex Pistols and led to the break-up of the band on tour in US in 1978.
Sid, with Nancy as his manager, embarked on a short and disastrous solo career. The pair locked themselves away in New York’s Chelsea Hotel where their drug use spiralled out of control.
