Untimely death:
In 1993, River spent some rare time off with his family on the Costa Rican settlement he had bought for his father. Seeing that the pressures of fame were telling on his son, River’s father tried again to get him to quit Hollywood. But River returned to begin filming his next project, Dark Blood.
In October that year, during a night out at LA’s Viper Room, a club owned by Johnny Depp, River collapsed and, convulsing, was dragged outside by his frantic sister Rain and brother Joaquin. River died aged 23, from a cocktail of heroin and cocaine.
