Saturday Night Live:

In 1975, John got his big break when he was asked to join Saturday Night Live, a ground-breaking new TV comedy sketch show. The show featured other names that would become comedy giants; Chevy Chase, Bill Murray and John’s best friend, Dan Aykroyd.

Television was the perfect showcase for John’s energetic, physical comedy and the exposure soon made him a star. His first film role came from Jack Nicholson, who cast him in his 1978 movie, Goin’ South. In 1979, John left Saturday Night Live to concentrate full-time on his movie career.
