Movie stardom:

John Belushi the movie star first came to the public’s attention as beer-monster Bluto in National Lampoon’s Animal House (1978). Although he only appeared in a handful of scenes, he stole the show.

His movies often saw him teamed with his close friend, Dan Aykroyd. They appeared together in 1941 (1979), Neighbors (1981) and, most famously, The Blues Brothers (1980), a film based on the pair of white soul men they played in Saturday Night Live. The movie was inspired by John’s love of blues and soul and the accompanying album went to the top of the charts.
