Reports of Hunter S. Thompson's death

Funeral:

Back in 1978, while recording for the BBC, Hunter, with his friend, cartoonist Ralph Steadman, had drawn up a plan for his own extravagant memorial. It comprised a 154ft tower in the shape of the Gonzo symbol - a two-thumbed fist clutching a ‘peyote button’ (a hallucinogenic cactus).

After Hunter’s death, actor Johnny Depp, who had played him on screen and become his friend, decided to fulfil his last wishes. The tower was built on Hunter’s Aspen ranch and in a private ceremony his ashes were fired from a cannon on top of the tower, accompanied by fireworks and Bob Dylan’s Mr Tambourine Man.
