Aches and Pains
Aches and pains are a common symptom of pregnancy due to the hormone progesterone which relaxes muscles and ligaments. This often causes backache as the extra weight puts strain on your back and comfortable sleeping positions are hard to find.

Helpful tips:
Don't overdo things.
Make sure you get plenty of rest.
Avoid bending or lifting heavy weights.
Don't stand for long periods of time.
Choose a comfortable chair that supports both your back and thighs.
Sit with a small cushion in the hollow of your back for added support.
Wear comfortable flat shoes that distribute your weight evenly.
As your pregnancy advances, sleep on your side with a pillow between your knees. Later on you may want another pillow under your bump to support it.
Get your partner to massage the site of the pain.
Sit down to perform tasks such as ironing or preparing food.
If you are getting severe or stabbing pain consult your GP as it may be a sign of a more serious problem.
