Accessorising Your Nursery

Young babies like the contrasts of black and white but later, will enjoy bright, colourful patterns and pictures. Try a colour or animal theme for a coordinated look but don't over do it - when it comes to shapes and colours, less is definitely more!

  • Don't be afraid to use large imagery in your nursery, enlarged photographs can be copied onto stretched canvas for personalised 'artwork'. These are widely available from high street photograph developers such as 'Snappy Snap'.
  • Frame and hang family photographs around the room so the baby can familiarise itself with his or her new family.
  • Why not combine decoration with learning. Using colourful letters and numbers we were able to marry up the needs of a nursery with the early education needs of the baby.
  • Use matching fabric to pull your decor together. The same fabric used for curtains, cushions, cot swathes and even mirror surrounds will give the room a coordinated and expensive look.
  • Theming can be effective but don't overdo it! The same goes for stencils - less is more!
