Hard Labour team at the demolition site

Demolition

In Aberdeen, our three unemployed youths get the chance to help the Controlled Demolition Group dismantle an old paper mill. Before they get anywhere near explosives, they must take an intensive course in health and safety and learn how to take a building apart the modern way and the old-fashioned (ie hard) way.

Working alongside seasoned site supervisor Bob Cunliffe, they get a flavour of just how tough demolition can be. It’s not all glamorous explosions – work doesn’t get more arduous than soft-stripping a house.

The demands on both body and spirit will be exhausting. The hard labourers get more than they bargained for as the physical rigours are combined with the mental strain of having to swat for a test that could provide their passport into the world of construction. It’s a golden opportunity to find their way back into work, if they can knuckle down.
