Becoming Alexander
Preparation for the role
Oliver Stone’s Alexander takes a bold, honest look at Alexander the Great’s life and his relationships with his mother, father Philip, lifelong friend and battle commander Hephaistion, his ambitious and beautiful Bactrian wife Roxane, and his trusted general and confidant Ptolemy. Set in Alexander’s pre-Christian world of social customs and morals far different from those of today, the film explores a time of unmatched beauty and unbelievable brutality, of soaring ideals and staggering betrayals.

Colin Farrell spent painstaking hours studying for the role - in addition to rigorous physical training and tuition with military consultants, he studied Alexander’s speeches and letters, the history and lifestyle of ancient Greece and spoke with historians and biographers to get inside the head of one of the world’s greatest warriors.

Through the unique experience of following an actor research and prepare for a role, viewers of Becoming Alexander will learn about the political, military and historical context where Alexander operated, and better understand the turbulent and bloody times in which he lived.
