The world's first supersonic airliner, Concorde had a cruise speed of 1,350mph - that's the muzzle velocity of a .303 bullet. With all four Rolls Royce Olympus engines on full throttle, Concorde had the equivalent horsepower of 10,000 Minis!
Concorde's sleek form and adjustable nose may look futuristic, but its development began in 1956 when the Supersonic Transport Aircraft Committee was set up. After years of Anglo-French co-operation. British Airways and Air France placed their first orders for nine aircraft in 1972.
