Fact file
A bean found in the tomb of King Tutankhamun sprouted after 3400 years

Tutankhamun, the last king of the 18th dynasty, ruled less than 10 years and died traumatically as a teenager, yet he remains one of Egypt’s most famous pharaohs.

This is due to the amazing treasures of his tomb, including his sarcophagus, golden funerary mask and some 5,000 other treasures. The discovery is also linked to many unexplained deaths among those associated with the dig that many attribute to a curse.

In fact, Tutankhamun did much during his short reign to repair the damage caused by his father Akhenaten, including restoring the old religion and moving the capital back to Memphis.
