The Storm Chasers anticipating a tornado
Storm Chasers

Every spring, across 700,000 square miles of flatland between the Rocky Mountains and the Appalachian Mountains, changing weather patterns and colliding air masses combine to create a recipe for catastrophe.

However, it’s an annual rite of spring for scientists and enthusiasts, including research meteorologist Josh Wurman and filmmaker Sean Casey, who are trying to achieve the impossible and actually go inside a tornado.

We're taking you into the heart of 'Tornado Alley' for a first-hand look at one of nature’s most destructive forces. Join Wurman and Casey in an expedition to capture valuable scientific data and rare footage from inside tornadoes.

Casey and Wurman make an unlikely team. Filming from the turret of his self-designed and self-built Tornado Intercept Vehicle (TIV), Casey risks his life to get the most elusive tornado footage ever shot.

He and his battle-hardened team will risk everything as they drive his 14,000lb TIV straight into the unknown heart of a deadly twister.

As the leader of the team, Wurman guides the TIV from his mobile command post, the 'Doppler on Wheels'. Wurman makes split second life-or-death decisions based on information from the Doppler radar as the safety of the entire team rests on his shoulders.
