Breaks for the crew are rare. The uncertainty surrounding how long a season will last and the difficulty in knowing precisely where to drop the pots in order to catch the most crab results in the men working twenty-hour shifts. They have to try to catch as many crabs as possible before the Alaska Department of Fish and Game calls an end to the season.
