CAPTAINS & CREW
TIME BANDIT
The Hillstrand brothers don't do anything by halves. The Time Bandit has luxuries unheard of on other crab fishing boats. From the queen-sized beds to the dishwasher and sauna – everything was designed and custom built by brothers Johnathan and Andy, and their father.
Johnathan and Andy share the skippering duties on board this family-operated vessel. Johnathan is the captain during king crab season. He runs a tight ship, and is not afraid to speak his mind. The Alaskan resident enjoys life on the edge - his Harley-Davidson motorbike is rigged to reach 120mph (193km/hr) at the touch of a button.
Andy is the skipper during the opilio season. During the off-season, he spends time at his ranch in Indiana, USA, indulging in his other passion: training horses.
The youngest brother, Deckhand Neal Hillstrand, is the cook and is also responsible for preparing the boat at the start of each season.
MAVERICK
The husband-and-wife owners of the Maverick, Rick and Donna Quashnick, are sitting out this year's king crab season but will return for the opilio season.
Captain Blake Painter is taking the helm of the Maverick this year. A second-generation fisherman from Astoria, USA, Blake started fishing at the age of three. He made his first professional trip to Alaska when he was 13. Now 26, he has been fishing on the Maverick for six years.
Deckhands Mike and Marvin Johnson are Blake's former roommates and long-time friends. The Johnson brothers worked in the logging industry in Astoria until Blake convinced them to try crab fishing.
