There are around 10,000 Druids in Britain today who practise ancient rituals that stretch back thousands of years. Some see it as a religion, some as a path to spiritual enlightenment and some as a cultural activity.
The Council of British Druids was formed in 1989, although there has been a revival of interest in Druidry for around 300 years, and there are now 12 major orders in the UK.
Druidry is difficult to describe because it has no written records or holy book. Instead, rituals are passed down through Bards – the keepers of tradition.
Druids believe in reincarnation, the souls of the dead go to the ‘otherworld’ before being reborn into new, human bodies.
