| Joe DiMaggio sent six red roses to Marilyn's crypt three times a week, for 20 years after her death |
Marilyn Monroe was found dead in her bedroom on 4 August 1962, aged just 36. Next to her was an empty bottle of sleeping pills, leading to the conclusion that she had suffered an overdose – either intentionally or accidentally.
Various theories have sprung up surrounding Marilyn’s death. One is that she took her own life after being told that the President, John F Kennedy, wanted to end their affair.
Other more sinister theories suggest that Marilyn’s death was no suicide. Some allege that her links to the Kennedy family and to Mafia boss, Sam Giancana, made her a threat to national security and this lead to her mysterious demise.
