The world was rocked by the death of John Lennon on 8 December 1980. He was shot outside his New York apartment by Mark Chapman, who had asked for his autograph only hours before.
Chapman, conspiracy theorists believe, may not have simply been a madman who acted alone, as was reported at the time. He did not follow the usual pattern of someone who murders a celebrity, but shunned publicity and refused to give interviews.
John Lennon was an ardent anti-war protestor and some people believe that Chapman was working for the FBI. It has files on John Lennon which it is still refusing to make public because of reasons of national security.
Others think Chapman may even have been hypnotised by the CIA, which also ensured that he got through two major airports without his weapon being discovered.
