Thursday 26th April 1986: At 12 midnight, the new shift commenced at the Chernobyl power station, and testing on unit 4 continued.
A minute by minute account of the operators’ desperate attempts to safely terminate the test procedure in reactor unit 4. Their efforts were doomed to fail as the reactor design did not permit last-minute corrections and unit 4 was not shut down in time. |
